The Boss Proves It All Night

Rock’n’roll doesn’t age, and apparently, neither does Bruce Springsteen

By Jessica Novak
Decades of performance have only made “The Boss” that much more worthy of the title he defends with every gut-busting, nonstop show that the 62-year-old Bruce Springsteen slays, along with the one-and-only untouchable E Street Band. During his triumphant Aug. 29 concert at Vernon Downs, the energy never lulled, the set list never slacked and Springsteen never failed to impress with a voice that throws listeners back to his 1970s self.

Full Nelson

Lukas Nelson embraces his father’s music while carving out his own style

By Jessica Novak
Lukas Nelson is an old soul. He prefers that people buy physical albums because he believes in the record as a whole piece of art. He writes songs with lyrics like “It all comes clear when you lose the years/ Don’t make the same mistake I made when I was your age.” He takes tips from guys like Neil Young. And he’s already had a near-death experience after a long night of partying that has him “cutting back” at the ripe old age of 23.

Gradually, he made his way into the spotlight by singing duets with Keys; his work with the singer, songwriter and pianist netted him a Grammy Award nomination, and he began opening Keys’ shows as a solo act.

Instant Karmin

YouTube rapper delights Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan kick off the Chevy Court calendar

By Jessica Novak
Amy Heidemann of Karmin has got a primped and perfect pin-up look with bright red lips and a neatly kept suicide roll atop her brunette head at nearly all times. She says Nick Noonan, her duo partner on stage and in life (the two are engaged), has got a “dapper” look to match. The two met while attending Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music where Heidemann was studying a mixture of vocal performance and music business and Noonan was paving the way to become a jazz trombonist.

LOCAL HOP

By Jessica Novak
He’s got a natural knack for words that’s hard to come by. Beyond that, he’s got a brutally convincing voice and guitar that matches his lyrics in just the way a singer-songwriter can make it. Every inch of every song is crafted to Adem’s specifications and it works out beautifully.
