Sacred Paradox, featuring photographs of Onondaga Lake and its tributaries by Willson Cummer,
addresses the current duality of our infamous body of water: It is both
a Superfund cleanup site and a holy lake for the nearby Onondaga Indian
Nation. “I find the lake gorgeous at times and repulsive at others,”
Cummer says. “Onondaga Lake is an extreme example of much of our natural
world: polluted yet still achingly beautiful.” The lake’s visual
contradictions (pictured) are on display through Feb. 28 at Baltimore Woods Nature Center’s Weeks Art Gallery,
4007 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus. Gallery hours are Mondays through
Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For
