The WSTM-Channel 3 news team back in the late 1980s featured (from left) anchors Lisa Sweitzer and John Nicholson, meteorologist Wayne Mahar and sports director Roger Springfield. Mahar still handles the lake-effect forecasts at Channel 3, although it was anchors aweigh long ago for Sweitzer and Nicholson, with the mustachioed Springfield moving on to a plum position as director of media properties and productions for Syracuse University’s athletics department. Recent allegations, however, that Springfield was covertly taping SU players—who were presumably sans jock straps—in the locker room led to his Dec. 13 dismissal from the Hill. Springfield, who is listed on the thank-you end credits for the 2008 Ernie Davis movie biography The Express, is now up on unlawful surveillance charges and must contend with an investigation led by Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick.

Somewhere in the world, Allen Funt is spinning in his grave.
