The recording process is an expensive one. From studio time and equipment to mixing, mastering, album art and production, the costs for artists to put out their product add up quickly. But Kickstarter.com allows musicians to build a campaign which allows fans to donate to their favorite artist’s cause. Just Joe Altier (featured on the July 27, 2011, Syracuse New Times cover) is calling on his following to help as he starts work on his new solo album, So The Story Goes. “Music is definitely a story, and music is the story of my life,” Altier writes in a heartfelt note to potential donors on his Kickstarter campaign page. “I have the greatest fans in the world.” He also promises to publish regular video and audio updates during the creation of the album, encourages interaction and feedback from donors, and emphasizes that those who donate will truly become “part of the story.” To help Altier reach his $2,000 goal, pledges of different amounts equate to various packages of CDs, digital downloads, T-shirts and more. Visit Kickstarter.com and search for “Just Joe.” Donations will be accepted until Dec. 15.
