Hip to be Square

.
. . . . . .

Since the weather outside won’t be frightful, expect a sizable gathering for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at downtown’s Clinton Square, bordering South Salina, West Genesee and South Clinton streets, on Friday, Nov. 23, starting at 6:30 p.m. Dubbed “Home for the Holidays,” the event will include musical guests such as the Syracuse Brigadiers Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, the Syracuse chapter of the Gospel Workshop of North America and Corcoran High School’s musical ensemble Corcoran Live! Also on the program: Santa Claus and his better half, plus Mayor Stephanie Miner (above, at the 2011 festivities) throwing the light switch, then throwing an open house at nearby City Hall, 233 E. Washington St., from 7 to 8 p.m. with music from the Stan Colella All-Star Band. The event is free. For information, call 473-4330.
