Red Tails

.
. . . . . .

New Disney employee George Lucas bankrolled this year’s action-oriented salute to the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American unit to serve in combat during World War II. So imagine Star Wars-styled special-effects dogfights serving an old-school wartime programmer, albeit with stars such as Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard in lead roles and a supporting cast that includes (pictured, from left, David Oyelowo, Elijah Kelley, Leslie Odom Jr., Michael B. Jordan, Nate Parker and Kevin Phillips). Rome’s Capitol Theatre, 220 W. Dominick St., offers a free 35mm movie screening of Red Tails on Saturday, Nov. 10, 7 p.m., as part of a Veterans Day tribute. Also on hand to receive an award from Rome Mayor Joseph R. Fusco Jr. will be Lt. Herbert C. Thorpe, a Rome resident and one of the last surviving Tuskegee pilots. For details, call 337-6453.
