BOY OF SUMMER

.
. . . . . .

BILL DELAPP PHOTO

Boy of summer: Syracuse Chiefs executive vice president Tex Simone, who turned 84 on Aug. 22, beams with delight during the Aug. 18 Syracuse Baseball Wall of Fame induction at Alliance Bank Stadium. Posthumous honors were doled out to 1920s-era Syracuse Stars player Dan Clark and the Stars’ first president, Philip Ryder, who ran the team from 1874 to 1877. On hand to accept their plaques were former Chiefs pitchers Scott McGregor and Frank Riccelli and outfielder Stu Pederson. They all shared warm memories of Tex and “Little Johnny” Simone, as the Chiefs general manager obliged those recollections by wearing short pants for the occasion.
