Assault City Roller Derby

.
. . . . . .

The women of Assault City Roller Derby will take on the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) Rollergirls on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Greater Baldwinsville Ice Area, 2725 W. Entry Road, Baldwinsville. ACRD consists of two teams: Assault Squad and Battery Brigade, and the two teams will take on their Canadian foes in consecutive matches this weekend. Roller Derby, a contact sport played on roller skates, relies on speed, agility, and a willingness to bump and be bumped. The game involves five members of each team skating around a circular track, sometimes flat, sometimes banked, with one member of each team, the “jammer,” trying to lap members of the other team to score points. And believe it or not, roller derby is one of eight sports under consideration for inclusion in the 2020 Summer Olympics. Tickets cost $10 if bought in advance; $12 at the door. Children under 10 get in for free. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit assaultcityrollerderby.com.
