In the “news” of the week, Pyramid mastermind Bob Congel finally admitted of the now-completed expansion of Carousel Center, “That’s all folks!” The Syracuse New Times covered the momentous ground-breaking for the Grand Destiny Hotel pipe dream way back on Oct. 24, 2002. But we skipped the photo op featuring Congel’s grandkids shoveling dirt with golden spades. Instead we covered the media covering the event. A crew from Rochester drove in for the spectacle, and WSTM-Channel 3 sent three (!) reporters. Even Gov. George Pataki showed up. Nearly 10 years later, the media blitz continues. On May 29, an official letter from Congel crony David Aitken explained how the media, as of Aug. 2, 2012, should refer to the property that will pay no property taxes for decades: Carousel Center will be Destiny USA, and Carousel Center Drive will become Destiny USA Drive.
