Silents Are Golden

.
. . . . . .

Now that multiplex moviegoers have checked out The Artist, the Oscar-winning salute to silent cinema, they should be prepared to handle the reel deal this weekend at Rome’s Capitol Theatre, 220 W. Dominick St. On Saturday, May 5, 7 p.m., the main attraction will be the cops-and-robbers yarn Underworld (pictured, with George Bancroft, Clive Brook and Evelyn Brent), Paramount’s 1927 thriller that paved the way for later gangster flicks such as Public Enemy and Little Caesar. But wait, there’s more: Two funny short subjects include the Max Fleischer cartoon Koko Explores (1927) and Harold Lloyd in Bumping into Broadway (1919). The program will be presented in 35mm prints with live organ accompaniment by Bernie Anderson Jr. Admission is $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and $1.50 for children. For details, dial 337-6453.
