In 1985 director Tim Burton channeled the endearing shtick devised by Paul Reubens’ loving parody of 1950s-era TV kiddie-show hosts into this endlessly creative film comedy.
It’s a candy-colored road movie about Pee-Wee Herman’s search for his stolen bicycle (maybe it’s in the basement of the Alamo?), with jokes galore that sail over the heads of moppet moviegoers, but those gags surely connect with adult audiences. Rome’s Capitol Theatre, 220 W. Dominick St., will screen a 35mm print of Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure on Tuesday, July 20, 7 p.m. Admission is $1. Call 337-6453 for details.
