William Walsh Remembered

.
. . . . . .

Boston may have its Kennedys but Syracuse has its Walshes, and we don’t mean the sheriff and his minions. We were reminded of the William Walsh legacy over the weekend when the paterfamilias died at age 98. This photo, from election night 2000, epitomizes the Walsh reach. William Walsh (left), former mayor of Syracuse and Congressman, his son Jim, then a Congressman, at his side, is speaking after daughter and sister Martha Walsh Hood was elected to the seat of Family Court Judge. Another Walsh offspring, William, continues to serve as an Onondaga County Court Judge. And every time you take the train or bus into or out of Syracuse, you do so at the William F. Walsh Regional Transportation Center, which one day may slip off the tongue as easily as does Hancock International Airport.
