Wild About Harry

.
. . . . . .

Renowned arranger, composer and jazz musicologist David Berger
comes to the Mulroy Civic Center’s Carrier Theater, 411
Montgomery St., on Saturday, March 20, 8 p.m., to lead the CNY Jazz
Octet
through Berger’s latest album I Had The Craziest Dream
(Such Sweet Sunday), a swinging treatment of Warren’s greatest hits.
Among those songs: “Jeepers Creepers” (with lyrics by Johnny Mercer),
“Serenade in Blue” and “I Only Have Eyes For You.” Berger will conduct a
free master class at 3 p.m. at the Carrier Theater; it’s open to the
public.

“This concert really has two guest artists,” says Larry Luttinger,
CNY Jazz executive director and organizer. “Not only do we have one of
the world’s leading jazz preservationists providing us with his
incredible interpretations, but the ghost of an icon of American culture
will be in the room as well.”

Opening for Berger and the jazz octet will be the Syracuse
University Supersax Ensemble
, guided by director of jazz studies Joe
Riposo
. They will perform transcriptions of jazz standards made
famous by Charlie Parker

Tickets cost $19.50, $24.50 and $27.50, with students paying $5. For
tickets, call 435-2121.
