Brick City

.
. . . . . .

The ill-fated building at 921 N. State St. that has held the Salt City hostage for more than two weeks finally got the go-ahead for demolition on March 12 when Gov. David Paterson and Mayor Stephanie Miner established shared responsibility for sorting out the mess. Demolition work was readied this week on the most recent location of Andy’s Cycle Shop. Because of falling bricks, the state Department of Transportation had shut down the portion of Interstate 81 that abuts the building, thereby messing with the commutes of thousands of north-county dwellers. With dozens of aging buildings paralleling the 50-year-old roadway, let’s hope an action plan can be put into place should a similar scenario play itself out again soon.
