As late as May 17, 2008, Maffei advised that he supported a House of
Representatives Iraq war bill that required troop withdrawal from Iraq
to begin within 30 days after it becomes law, with a goal of removing
all Iraq combat forces by December 2009. Maffei also opposed Bush’s
Iraq “surge,” which was successful, and led to the United States and
Iraq signing of the Status of Forces Agreement, and the planned
withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq by the end of 2011.

Maffei’s liberal “peace at any price” background is clear. He spent 10
years working in Washington, D.C., in an entirely liberal aura for
Democrat Charles Rangel, who as House Way and Means Committee chairman,
oversees our federal income tax structure, but who somehow neglected to
pay his own taxes on a plush vacation home. While following the
anti-war policies of the liberal Democratic congressional leaders who
helped fund his 2008 political victory, Maffei is obviously not
concerned about what is right for the United States and the world.
