Saranac Black Forest, brewed by Utica’s F.X. Matt Brewing Company,
was awarded a bronze medal in the German Style Schwarzbier category at
the 2009 European Beer Star Awards. “We are extremely proud to receive
this award,” said Fred Matt, vice president of marketing and
sales. “This medal shows that our ability to brew a very special beer
has not only been recognized by our consumers, but also by the
international world of experts in the brewing industry.”

But that wasn’t the only accolade this
year for the Bavarian black beer sweetened with caramel malt. Other
awards include: silver in the Black Beer category at the North American
Beer Awards, bronze in the American Style Dark Lager category at the
Great American Beer Festival, and a bronze in the Dark Lager category
at the Australian International Beer Awards.

“We believe we make some of the best
beers in the world,” Matt noted. “Winning four awards for Black Forest,
especially in this short period of time, proves our beers are
exceptional. What a great reason to go out and enjoy a Saranac.”
