The Gift of Riff

Guitarist Warren Haynes (pictured), Derek Trucks’ buddy from the Allman Brothers Band, also returns to the Central New York area with his longtime hard-rock band Gov’t Mule for an 8 p.m. concert on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Ithaca’s State Theatre, 105 W. State St. The Mule, which also features drummer Matt Abts, Danny Louis on keyboards and bassist Jorgen Carlsson, is touring in support of the brand-spanking-new album By a Thread (LABEL), which dropped in stores earlier this week, so you can bet they’ll riff into some new tracks from that effort. Jackie Greene, a 28-year-old singer-songwriter with a winsome, appealing voice reminiscent of Al Stewart circa Year of the Cat, opens the show. Tickets are $26.50 and $29.50. For information, call (800) 919-6272.
