The outlook for careers in the beauty industry is very
promising. The beauty industry continues to evolve, broadening its
scope and employing ever larger numbers of licensed professionals.

The beauty industry offers a wide choice of career
opportunities like: working in a salon as a stylist, manager or owner;
working for a manufacturer as a researcher, educator or sales
associate; working in the entertainment industry for TV, motion
pictures or live theater; working in a school as a teacher, director or
owner. Careers as hairstylists and cosmetologists are ranked by Money magazine as among “America’s 50 Hottest Jobs,” with annual earnings exceeding $38,000.

The Phillips Hairstyling Institute’s approach is
recognized throughout the area as one of the best there is. It entails
both the art and science of hair, skin and nails. Textbook study is
supplemented by laboratory work with visual aids to further educate you
in the trade techniques of today’s beauty industry.

The institute is licensed by the New York state
Department of Education as well as approved by the U.S. Department of
Education and the Veterans Administration. Students at Phillips can
qualify for a number of programs that will help them pay their
educational costs including students loans, Pell Grants and veterans
benefits.

The school offers a 1,000-clock hour Cosmetology Course
(Hair, Skin and Nail Care), which prepares students to successfully
take the New York state examination for licensure, as well as a
250-clock hour Nail Specialty Course for students who want to
specialize in natural and artificial nail care as well as a Waxing
Program for removal of unwanted hair. The school has a 94 percent pass
rate for its Cosmetology course and a 100 percent pass rate for its
Nail Specialty course for the most recent reporting year.

The Cosmetology course is offered in three schedules:
full-time days, Tuesdays to Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; full-time
nights, 4 to 10 p.m.; part-time, Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5p.m., and
Tuesdays and Thursdays; 6 to 10 p.m.

Prospective students are encouraged to call 422-9656 to
make an appointment to tour the school and schedule a financial aid
