Weather can be capricious in March, but so far that
hasn’t deterred participation in the Shamrock Run. Maybe it’s because
folks are itching to get moving again, maybe it’s that the run touts
itself as a preamble to the Mountain Goat training runs and a healthy
way to kick off St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, or maybe it’s just that
the race is really fun. Last year bands performed in front of the many
bars that populate Tipp Hill, and “some bands were playing on the
porches of houses,” McAndrew says. “That just added to it.”
The course starts and ends at Burnet Park, hitting all the historic Tipp Hill markers along the way. It’s not an easy run; it is
called Tipp “Hill,” after all, but it’s a guaranteed good time. “I want
this race to be really fun,” stresses McAndrew. “We get a good mixture:
some people who are very competitive, others who live in the
neighborhood and love being part of it, and walkers enjoying the day.”
