The significant import of Martin Luther King Jr. Day has
been further heightened following the results of the 2008 presidential
election, so events like Syracuse University’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
will revel in the fruits of the promise made in the great civil rights
leader’s dream. This year’s dinner, titled “Dare to Imagine a Better
World,” will take place at the Carrier Dome, 900 Irving Ave.,
on Sunday, Jan. 18, 5:30 p.m. SU will present its selections for the
2009 Unsung Hero Awards, as well as a speech by Eddie S. Glaude Jr., a Princeton University professor who will discuss his insights on the black struggle as acquired through work on his book In a Shade of Blue: Pragmatism and the Politics of Black America. Tickets to the dinner are $25. For more information, call 443-5044.
