In ancient times, snowshoeing
was plainly the smartest and quickest way to get around, but these days
families and nature enthusiasts alike practice the mode of travel as a
simple way to enjoy the winter season. Beaver Lake Nature Center,
8477 E. Mud Lake Road, Baldwinsville, will invite web walkers out to
clinics every Saturday and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. through February, to
take in the natural scene and learn about the hobby. Three trails, Pine
Meadow, a short half-mile path; Northern Exposure, a 1.4-mile stroll;
and Southern Exposure, a 2.2-mile stretch; will be available. Snowshoes
are available for rental for $3, while parking is $2 per vehicle. Or
try the Weekday Snowshoe Jaunt, an hour-long outing through the
woods with a naturalist. These take place at 1:30 p.m. weekdays through
February. For more information, call 638-2519.
