This year, as in the past, Barnes & Noble, 3454 Erie Blvd. E., DeWitt, will be collecting children’s books for their annual Holiday Book Drive, taking place through Jan. 1. Barnes & Noble launched the book drive with the sole intention of providing customers the opportunity to donate books to children in need through locally designated non-profit organizations, which this year, is the Salvation Army’s Christmas Bureau. Last year, the store collected more than 3,700 books and they hope to eclipse that number this year.

“Our store has an opportunity to choose its own local non-profit partner to benefit from the Holiday Book Drive,” said Barnes & Noble community relations director Sarah DiFrancesco. “It’s a great opportunity for stores and customers to provide new books for children who really need them through donations to local charities. On a national level, Barnes & Noble and its subsidiary Sterling Publishing will be making a donation of 100,000 books to our literacy partner First Book.”

Books can be dropped off anytime during the store’s current holiday hours, Mondays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information about the program or to inquire about anything else Barnes & Noble, call 449-2948.
