Axes to Grind

.
. . . . . .

Polish your arpeggios and prepare your
best licks, because you’ll have a chance at collaborating with both
your peers and some of the nation’s top guitarists during this
weekend’s SUNY Oswego Guitar Symposium. Local guitar legend and adjunct music professor Rick Balestra has invited a variety of acclaimed players to the event. Jeff Linsky, the Latin and classic finger-style guitarist, performs Saturday, Nov. 8, 1:30 p.m., followed at 4 p.m. by the Oz Noy Trio, a high-energy fusion jazz group which performed at the 2008 JGB Syracuse Jazz Fest, and a 7:30 p.m. set with the Peter Bernstein Trio, fronted by the New York City jazz guitarist. On Sunday, Nov. 9, the Brasil Guitar Duo, a quente classic guitar pairing, checks in at 11 a.m.; and the Frank Vignola Quartet,
representing gypsy jazz, concludes the weekend’s performances at 4 p.m.
Clinics will be held with some of the musicians throughout both days,
starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Registration fees for both the concerts and the clinics range from $25
to $115; tickets that will allow admission to all of the concerts are
$25 to $60, while individual concerts will cost $7 to $15. Clinics take
place at various campus locations, while the concerts will go on at
Waterman Theater. Visit www.oswego.edu/guitar for more information, or
call 312-2141.
