As evidenced by the buzz around the upcoming Bill Maher film Religulous,
religion shows little sign of waning as a contender for the hottest
topic in the American consciousness, a fact that has also inspired
writer R. Gustav Niebuhr to labor as The New York Times’
religion reporter. Niebuhr has been a professor at the S.I. Newhouse
School of Public Communications since 2004, and has since released a
new book, Beyond Tolerance: Searching for Interfaith Understanding In America (Viking Penguin). The professor will host a book signing and reception at Creekside Book & Coffee, 25 Fennell St., Skaneateles, on Saturday, Oct. 4, 1 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call 685-0379.
