. . . Jazz In the City, the addendum to last month’s Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation’s Jazz In the Square event, has been running strong for the past two weeks. The Blacklites and Will Holton kicked off the festival on July 31, while the Eudy Fernandez Jazz Quartet and La Familia De La Salsa All-Stars
beat the Aug. 7 rain by moving the scheduled concert at Skiddy Park to
the nearby gym at St. Lucy’s Church. The fun will continue when Hammond
B3 organist Tony Monaco will be accompanied by local players Jeff Stockham and Joe Carello
on Thursday, Aug. 14, 7 to 9 p.m., on the 700 block of North Salina
Street. The ad hoc festival will then conclude on Thursday, Aug. 21, 7
to 9 p.m., in the parking lot of Pomco, 2425 James St., with local saxophonist Evan Knight and rhythm’n’blues-meets-funk guitarist  Matt Marshak. Admission is free. For more information, call 479-JAZZ.

. . . Each year, classical music fans gather in the placid countryside of Skaneateles to take part in the Skaneateles Festival,
a monthlong run of concerts by some of the country’s top classical
performers. The highbrow get-togethers kicked off Aug. 7, and will
continue this Wednesday, Aug. 13, when “FamilyFest: Musical Storytime”
will entertain children starting at 11 a.m., while the special event
“Villas, Vittles and Fiddles” will feature chamber music at 7 p.m.;
both concerts will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 97
E. Genesee St., Skaneateles. Events will continue at the church on
Thursday, Aug. 14, when pieces by Copland, Schubert and August
Klughardt are performed by soprano Sari Gruber, viola player Marka Gustavsson, the Miro Quartet, oboe player James Roe and pianist Cameron Stowe,
starting at 8 p.m. Again at the church on Friday, Aug. 15, two concerts
will include a behind-the-scenes look at the Miro Quartet at 7 p.m., as
well as the quartet’s rendition of pieces by Prokofiev, Beethoven and
Schoenberg, starting at 8 p.m. Activities will move to the Brook Farm,
2870 W. Lake Road, Skaneateles, on Saturday, Aug. 16, when the fest’s
chamber orchestra as well as Gruber perform the works of Rossini,
Barber, Handel and Haydn, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $15
to $227. For more information, call 685-7418 or visit www.skanfest.org.
