In the heat of summer, amateur anglers
might sometimes forget that they need a license to fish in New York
state. For those who have forgotten to renew their angling credentials,
they’ll be able to cast without worry during Free Fishing Weekend
on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29. State Department of
Environmental Conservation officials will overlook the need for a
fishing licence, with hopes of drawing people into the sport.
Waterfronts and state parks throughout the state will welcome
unofficial fishers, including at Onondaga Lake Park, 106 Lake
Drive, Liverpool, where children and parents can fish on its shores for
separate registration fees: $10 for adults and $5 for children on
Saturday, and $2 for adults and $1 for children on Sunday. For more
information, visit www.dec.ny.gov, or call (518) 402-8000.
