A fixture on placid and oh-so-tony Skaneateles Lake, the Mid-Lakes Navigation Company will celebrate its 40th birthday with an anniversary event on Saturday, June 21, 1 to 7 p.m., at the dock in Clift Park,
Genesee Street, Skaneateles. The company was founded in 1968 by Peter
Wiles Sr., who at the time had purchased the tour boat known as Pat II,
in order to allow sightseeing passengers to tag along with the boat’s
scheduled mail run across the lake. The company has since evolved into
a boat tour empire, serving the Skaneateles area as well as Syracuse’s
portion of the Erie Canal, and also hosts two- and three-day tours to
other large, upstate cities. The event will feature an open house on the boat Judge Ben Wiles, as well as rides on the lake aboard the Barbara S. Wiles, and music starting at 3 p.m. from the Dick Sheridan Dixieland Jazz Band and from 5 to 7 p.m. with the duo of Joe Whiting and Loren Barrigar. Admission is free. For more information, call 685-8500.
