Syracuse International Film Festival: Wedding Day

.
. . . . . .

In Las
Vegas, thwarted-at-the-altar bride Angelina (Dana Bomar) intends to
find a suitor—and anybody will do—to fulfill her wacky wedding
obsession of saying “I do” in front of an Elvis Presley impersonator.
Accompanying Angelina is Adrian (Nick Caballero), the best man who
knows that the groom is a louse. Schmoeller frequently switches from
the Vegas backdrop to profile events in two other settings. In Paris,
Michelle (Axelle Charvox) still commiserates about the tragic events
surrounding her intended nuptials four years earlier. It takes the
world-weary advice of passer-by Catherine (Mara Labadens) to get
Michelle out of the graveyard and into the present day. And in
Singapore, the ebullient bliss of future bride Kay (Sara Yang) is
compromised by the misgivings of her gal pal Mali (Chan Huimin), with a
surprise resolution in the offing. Schmoeller fuses dollops of romantic
cynicism and uplifting humanism (best exemplified by Catherine’s
advice, “It’s not so bad to forget his face; it’ll make it easier for
you to see a new one.”) with colorful on-location photography for this
affectionate valentine. Delavan, Friday, May 2, 7:30 p.m.
