Raise the Rufus

Bassist Rufus Reid, a consummate musician, composer and jazz teacher, will bring both his style and unique brand of Music Ed 101 to the Mulroy Civic Center’s Carrier Theater, 411 Montgomery St., on Friday, March 28, 8 p.m. Before intermission, Reid and his quintet will lead members of the Central New York Jazz Orchestra in performing selections from his two-disc set Live at the Kennedy Center (Motema Music). A master class at the Carrier, which precedes his performance at 3 p.m., will include a lineup of area student jazz musicians, both on stage and in the audience; the clinic is free and open to the public.
