. . . The Web site for JazzTimes magazine, www.JazzTimes.com, offers a snapshot of the lineup for the 2008 Syracuse Jazz Fest, slated for Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28, at Onondaga Community College. The site claims that Chaka Khan will be one of the big acts, although Khan’s Web site states that she’ll be on the OCC campus from 8 to 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 29. The JazzTimes site also lists these performers: Sergio Mendes; Ivan Lins; Moutin Reunion Quartet; Oz Noy Trio with Anton Fig and Will Lee; a tribute to Michael Brecker with Mike Stern, Dave Weckl, Randy Brecker and Chris Minh Doky; The Steelheads; Bill Evans’ Soulgrass with Christian Howes and Mark Egan; East Coast/West Coast Dreamband with David Garfield, Steve Ferrone, Will Lee, Chuck Loeb, Bob Sheppard and Alex Ligertwood “and many more artists and headliners” to be announced. Maybe Jazz Fest honcho Frank Malfitano is saving this news for another schmoozeathon with Marky Mark Bialczak and WSYR-AM 570 gadfly Jim Reith, but readers can always check out www.syracuse

jazzfest.com.

. . . Bands composed of the suits who run Syracuse’s businesses will unite to rock at this year’s Rockin’ the Red Cross, a benefit for the American Red Cross slated to take place on Friday, April 18, 5:30 to 10 p.m., at the Landmark Theatre, 362 S. Salina St. The Post-Standard is fielding a group, but there’s no truth to the rumor that they’ll be named The Jolly Rogers. Whatever band moniker those feebs are going to call themselves, the reconstituted New Times Banned will kick their asses. For information, call 475-7979.
