Encaustics, The Beginning and a Bit More

April 26 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

| $100 and a $30 Materials Fee

There’s nothing quite like working with encaustic, a medium made by mixing melted beeswax, resins, and coloring agents. The fragrance of the beeswax makes for an amazing sensory experience, and the medium is very malleable and forgiving. Also called hot wax painting, encaustic was used in ancient Egypt for portraits. It was rediscovered in the mid-twentieth century and has become a popular medium because of its unique properties and look. Join us for this introductory, one day class to learn all the basics. While working on various panels, you’ll experiment with a variety of tools and techniques to create texture, modulate color, build up layers to create visual depth, carve lines and patterns, and add text and images. Give yourself permission to play while “painting” with wax and fire! (ok, not literally fire, but it sounds cooler than heat.)
