March to the Match this Friday!

When you think about supporting the Buy Local movement, or if you are thinking about taking the 10 Percent  Shift (a SyracuseFirst initiative), are you factoring in our local sports teams? You should be.  Our local athletes and sports teams bring revenue to the City of Syracuse and excitement to their fans.

Tickets make great stocking stuffers, and the holidays are time for family.  Get out and have some fun this season with your family and support our local sports teams!

The Syracuse Silver Knights, our professional MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League) team here in Syracuse, are undefeated.

The Knights are led by Coach Tommy Tanner and General Manager Jon Ramin.

They look to turn this Friday the 13th into another show of player talent and fan excitement.  It’s time to “March to the Match!” this Friday.

When I spoke with Ramin, I expected to learn all about a sport I know very little about.  You know, a verbal tutorial of sorts on how soccer is played.  Instead, Ramin insisted the conversation focus on the player’s interactions with their favorite people: their fans.

Jon is very passionate about how the players entertain and interact with fans.  As Jon said, “Isn’t that what it’s all about?” referring to what responsibilities the players and franchise have aside from winning.  Ramin was referring primarily to the youth fan base, which is constantly growing, thanks to the parents of the young fans.

Yes, Jon, that’s exactly what it’s all about.

I also had the opportunity to speak with a fan favorite, Nelson “Nelly” Santana, one of the Knight’s Defenders. Santana, from Columbia, was equally enthusiastic about the growing fan base as he tirelessly took photo after photo with fans while attending the SyracuseFirst Buy Local Bash. Nelson said, “We love our fans.  We had about 3,600 people at the last game and when, as a player, you see that much support, it just makes you want to play all the harder and give the fans the best experience I can.”

Friday, December 13th, join the Syracuse Silver Knights’ as they “March to the Match” for the second home game of the season against the St. Louis Ambush (I believe it’s St. Louis who will be ambushed).

Here are the details:

PREGAME 
- 5 p.m. – Start the party with some drinks at World Lounge and Martini Bar in Hanover Square with fellow Knights fans.



MARCH TO THE MATCH – 7 p.m. – Led by the Salt City Supporters Club, walk from Hanover Square over to the Oncenter War Memorial Arena for the game.



KICKOFF – 7:30 p.m.Syracuse Silver Knights vs. St. Louis Ambush

.

AFTER THE GAME – 10 p.m. – Top off the night with an after party at World Lounge and Martini Bar with the Syracuse Silver Knights players and the Syracuse Silver Knights Dance Team

.
